How to Use Pinterest for Traffic Generation

Pinterest has become one of the most visited social media sites on the internet due to its uniqueness and creativity. Pinterest is an online pinboard that allow users to pin items of interest from anywhere on the internet, so they can easily access them again. Because of its ability to act as a collage of photos about any topic or interest, more and more people are using the site for finding products and expressing their interests.

As an online business, how can you put such a powerful social media to work for your company? How can you use Pinterest to drive more traffic to your website?

  • Enable pinning of your photos. Make it easier for your audience to pin any photo they see on your website that captures their interest. If they pin it on their board, it will not only link back to your site, but it will also show up in the “newsfeeds” of their fellow pinners, resulting in free promotion for your site.
  • Use quality photos. Never settle for less with your photos, as they are one of the most impactful representations of your business. Seeing excellent photos will encourage your audience to pin them to their boards, thus magnifying your presence on Pinterest.
  • Be active on Pinterest. Do not let your audience do all the work – be active too! Follow what others are pinning and get into the trend. Show you are interested in your audiences and comment on some of their posts. By engaging, more people will see your name and be more likely to follow your account directly.
  • Post photos that are outside of your business as well. Do not be so self-absorbed with your own photos that you come off as insincere and sales pitchy. Instead, post interesting photos that are somehow related to your industry in addition to photos specifically about your company.
  • Create viral-friendly posts. Do this and you will be able to drive more traffic to your site than you ever imagined. Post something very catchy and interesting and let it go viral. The already exponential power of Pinterest will expand even further and allow you to reach entirely new markets you wouldn’t have been able to reach otherwise.
  • Always remember hashtags. These are simple yet effective words that optimize your ranking in search results and increase your visibility. Be wise in choosing your hashtags and include only what is necessary. Whatever you do, don’t overuse hashtags, as it becomes annoying and clouds your real message.
  • Write something meaningful for your photo descriptions. Create a description that relates to your photos, yet is straight to point. Be creative and enticing.
